Dr. Walter Linz serves as the Director of Transfusion Medicine and the BaylorScott and White Blood Donor Center in Temple Texas. In that capacity, he directs the Therapeutic Apheresis Service, the Progenitor Cell collection program and the Immunohematology reference laboratory. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of The American Society for Apheresis (ASFA) as vice president and has been involved in apheresis policy development. He is also extensively involved in medical education with teaching responsibilities for laboratory technologists, medical students, pathology residents and hematology fellows. Dr. Linz is especially grateful for the opportunity to have served as the senior editor of the 4th, 5th and 6th editions of Principles of Apheresis Technology. Dr. Linz holds advanced degrees from Emory University and Wake Forest University.
Dr. Jan Hofmann is Clinical Professor of Laboratory Medicine at UCSF School of Medicine, core faculty of the BCP-UCSF Transfusion Medicine Fellowship Program, and Associate Medical Director of Apheresis Services (FMC-NA). In addition to providing clinical oversight and managing one of the largest mobile apheresis programs in California, he provides apheresis consultation to referring physicians from more than 60 hospitals throughout the state, and teaches both residents and fellows at UCSF and California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. Dr. Hofmann holds advanced degrees from Harvard, UCSF, and UC Berkeley, and has completed post-doctoral training in internal medicine, immunology, biomedical ethics, and outcomes research.
