January 2018

Title: The Role of Apheresis in Chimeric Antigen Receptor T Cell Manufacturing
Date: Wednesday, January 17, 2018
Time: 12:00pm - 1:00pm ET
Speaker: Andrew Fesnak, MD

Dr. Andrew Fesnak, MD, Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine serves as the Director of Manufacturing in the Cell and Vaccine Production Facility (CVPF) at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Fesnak received his B.A. from Princeton University and M.D. from Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine. He completed his clinical pathology residency and transfusion medicine fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and joined the CVPF first as a fellow in 2014 and later as Director of Manufacturing in 2016. In the CVPF, he oversees cell manufacturing and supervises the translation of research protocols to large scale, clinical manufacturing. In addition, Dr. Fesnak shares medical oversight of the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania Apheresis Collection Center and Blood Bank. His interests include optimization of apheresis collection for downstream engineered cell therapy manufacturing.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the scientific rationale for CAR T cell design
  • Highlight the challenges of apheresis collection for CAR T manufacturing
  • Discuss potential solutions to optimize apheresis collection for CAR T cell manufacturing
