Guidelines for Physicians Overseeing Therapeutic Apheresis

These Guidelines for the establishment of therapeutic apheresis clinical privileges, developed by the Apheresis Applications Committee of ASFA, are intended to focus attention on two issues important in the quality of care: the recognition that a qualified physician is the best provider of therapeutic apheresis services, and the importance of the maintenance of professional knowledge. These Guidelines were published on September 14, 2005 and reviewed and revised in January 2011. The Guidelines will be reviewed by the Board of Directors of ASFA bi-annually.

Guidelines for Documentation of Therapeutic Apheresis Procedures in the Medical Record by Apheresis Physicians

In recognition of the increasing importance of the documentation of physician services in the medical record, the Clinical Applications and Standards Committee of ASFA has considered the documentation of physician services during therapeutic apheresis procedures. The Committee has developed Guidelines for acceptable documentation of the apheresis physician's services during a therapeutic procedure. These Guidelines were published on September 14, 2005 and will be reviewed by the Board of Directors of ASFA annually thereafter.
