The Department of Medical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the School of Medicine at the University of California, Davis announces a search for a full-time clinical pathologist. Responsibilities will chiefly include clinical service, teaching and laboratory management plus collaborative support of the department’s research mission. Teaching may include clinical, didactic, multi-disciplinary conferences, and small group teaching of housestaff, medical students, clinical laboratory science students, and practicing physicians.

The successful candidate must possess a MD, MD/PhD and be board certified in Transfusion Medicine, or have equivalent credentials. Experience in teaching and clinical service is required in one or more of the following areas: Stem cell collections by Apheresis both autologous and allogeneic, therapeutic apheresis, transfusion medicine, and blood bank services. Experience in laboratory management and clinical translational research is preferred. The candidate must meet requirements for appointment as Assistant or Associate in one of the University of California’s clinically intensive academic series. California professional license or eligibility for licensure in California is required. Additionally, the successful candidate must have the ability to maintain a high level of service, work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment, and should exhibit excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with medical and technical staff, trainees, and others. Salary is commensurate to background and experience.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has more than 40 faculty members, provides service in all major subspecialties of anatomic and clinical pathology, and is active in basic science, translational, and clinical research. Educational programs include a 14-person residency program, specialty fellowships in transfusion medicine, hematopathology, cytopathology, and surgical pathology, and a clinical laboratory scientist training program. The University of California, Davis, Medical Center, one of the nation’s “Top 100 Hospitals,” is a 576 bed academic medical center, with the distinction of having an NCI-designated Cancer Center. Automated Blood Collections Manager

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible for operation and performance of apheresis procedures on donors and patients. The procedures may be collections or therapeutic procedures.
Oversees, evaluates, performs and documents apheresis procedures according to policy/procedure.
Performs apheresis procedures on the COBE Spectra instrument and other instruments as assigned.
Oversees, evaluates, performs and documents apheresis procedures for collection of mononuclear cells, granulocytes and/or peripheral blood stem cells, and performs therapeutic apheresis procedures as required.
Assists in the development of new procedures as well as annual review of pertinent procedures and policies pertaining to the apheresis program.

Is proficient in performing apheresis procedures via peripheral vein and central venous access.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduate of accredited School of Professional Nursing with current RN license in good standing. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibitlies indlude supervising lab personnel through interviewing, hiring, assigning work, planning work schedules, evaluation perfomance, counseling/disciplining employees and recommending salary adjustments. Organizing scheduling and performing technical procedures associated with the collection of bone marrow/stem cells for transplant. Coordinating patient needs for bone marrow/stem cell transplant in weekly meetings with transplant team. Coordinating and overseeing the patient workflow and scheduling. Reviewing technical results ensuring consistency of standards set forth in the lab's operating procedures. Maintaining logs and records of procedures performed in the apheresis. Performing calculations and tabulates data for administrative and scientific reports. Attending and participating in hospital committees and meetings.

The Supervisor Apheresis is responsible for assuring compliance with Section C of FACT standards, also knowledge of the 21 CFR 1271 GTP regulations. This Supervisor Apheresis has the authority to coordinate an initiate transplant collection procedures based upon pre-collection data. This position also has the authority to supervise the staff to the Stem Cell Therapy Lab which includes overseeing workload and daily lab operations, testing, reporting, equipment and supplies. Reviews work of supervised technical personnel and provides assurances pertaining to acceptable and consistent performance. Major challenges encountered by the incumbent include coordinating the patient workflow from two separate transplant centers and resolving technical problems associated with stem cell collections: cell yield, patient/donor reactions, equipment failure, etc. The incumbent ensures that the best possible results occur from testing for quality patient care.

NeoStem is managing a network of adult stem cell collection centers in major metropolitan areas in the United States, enabling people to donate and store their own (autologous) stem cells when they are young and healthy for their personal use in times of future medical need. Opportunity to be part of a fast growing, well capitalized, international public company specializing in Adult Stem Cells. Company is looking for a Director of Clinical Operations who is directly responsible for the daily work activities and operation of the NeoStem Donor Program and Client Apheresis Services and Collection Centers (“Network”), as well as the Quality Assurance program of the Network and regulatory responsibilities. This includes onsite visits and support. Duties and Responsibilities:

Directs all technical, managerial, computer related and clinical aspects of the Network. Reviews and manages donation practices to maintain high standards of client and donor care. Provides technical expertise, assistance and supervision for all aspects of the daily operation of the Network.
Provides communication between physicians, clients and the collection centers on important medical and administrative issues

Measures and evaluates site activities, providing statistical reports as required. Prepares, evaluates and presents the Donor/Apheresis Center data for NeoStem as needed/directed.
Responsible for implementation of quality assurance program including review of records, proficiency testing, and documentation of corrective action. Maintains compliance with hospital standards and those of outside regulatory agencies. Develop Compliance Unit to assure and improve the quality of outcomes.
Assures appropriate and timely deferrals of donors according to standard operating procedures and policies.
Participates in the interview and selection process of hiring new staff in conjunction with the Collection Care Coordinator program and field clinical support personnel.
Responsible for documentation of on-going competency of all staff in accordance with Network and regulatory standards.
Develops/updates performance appraisal plans and participates in evaluation of all staff. Determines staffing needs and administers personnel policies (i.e. as related to hiring, evaluating, and disciplinary activities).
Conducts performance evaluations on staff to assure ongoing competencies Takes disciplinary action when appropriate in conjunction and with guidance from the President.
Coordinates assignments to meet the daily and variable needs of the Donor/ Apheresis services-- Monitors work assignments and schedules.
Represents NeoStem at the Collection Centers and during other Company clinical, trade show or promotional activities per the President.
Assists in the preparation of operating and capital budgets in conjunction with the President and Chief Financial Officer.
Provides input regarding departmental needs for supplies and staffing for day to day operations and for yearly budgeting. Maintains efficient and cost effective operations and assists in cost benefit analysis to evaluate and recommend expenditures and program policies and activities.
Ensures that all billing is done in an accurate and efficient manner. Assists President, Chief Financial Officer and Collection Care Coordinators in reviewing fees and services to ensure for proper billing compliance.
Responsible for preventative maintenance of equipment and implementation of new equipment. Provides expertise in all areas of equipment operation and in clinical procedures for blood collection and apheresis.
Promotes spirit of professionalism and excellence in performance to the staff. Keeps informed and up to date on developments in the field, encourages same in staff members. Promotes continuing education throughout the organization.
Complies with all medical safety requirements. Is knowledgeable about SOP policies concerning fire drills, OSHA regulations, hazardous waste management, chemical hygiene plan, and radiation safety.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Gambro BCT is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Market Development Manager - Americas. This individual will hold responsibility for providing leadership in the areas of strategic direction and objectives, marketing strategies and sales tools, and (product line) problem resolution in a particular market area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Analyze and solve complex and or unusual customer problems in a timely manner.

Working with a high degree of independence, translates customer needs into product conceptualization, development and design objectives and marketing strategies.

Provides leadership during product trials and introductions. Coordinates efforts with manufacturing, engineering, quality, worldwide sales and other functional areas to produce innovative products that meet customer needs.

Establishes and is held accountable for the achievement of sales and market share goals for assigned products.

Collects and analyzes competitor information and tracks sales. Develops and refines marketing, promotional and pricing strategies.

Provide detailed input/feedback to Product Management Team to recommend changes in product design, manufacturing, quality or any other aspect of the product or service.

Develops and coordinates the production of product introduction, sales and support materials, brochures and other tools.

Organizes, coordinates and presents product seminars for customers and sales personnel.

Monitors and analyzes indicators of business performance: Sales versus Forecast (units, revenue, gross profit), actual versus plan selling price, product mix, disposables utilization, competitor information, and other relevant marketing factors.

Develops and implements the introductory business plans for new products or product enhancements to assure proper positioning strategies. Coordinates pre-launch, launch and post-launch activities.

Works closely with the Sales organization and Global Marketing Managers to successfully identify business opportunities, support tools, and new marketing programs in a timely and high quality manner. Requires a thorough understanding of marketplace dynamics as they relate to product, price, distribution, and overall customer financial objectives.

Provides direction on the design and implementation of promotion, sales force collateral, and customer communication materials to ensure consistency with customer’s needs and the selling system approach. Evaluates communication and documentation programs and support tools for effectiveness through customer and sales force feedback as well as objective research. Uses a sales force automation application in compliance with its business rule and user guidelines to disseminate information in all Americas market.

Assists customers and sales personnel through the provision of sales training, clinical in-service assistance and marketing programs.

Assists customers in the optimal use of products.

Special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge necessary to perform in this position is generally acquired through a relevant Bachelor’s degree and 8 or more years of relevant technical or clinical experience, with emphasis in Sales, Marketing or Business.

Extensive knowledge of product applications /therapies and the markets for which the product or products for which the incumbent has responsibility are used.

Demonstrated and effective leadership ability and managerial skills.

Extensive knowledge of sales/marketing strategic planning and program delivery.

Demonstrated analytical thinking skills and the ability to solve problems and develop programs with creativity and good judgment.

Demonstrated expertise in product and therapy knowledge.

Ability to assess customer needs and market trends within the context of product and business capabilities and the ability to translate this assessment into workable strategy.
