The Department of Medical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
The
Department of Medical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the School
of Medicine at the University of California, Davis announces a search
for a full-time clinical pathologist. Responsibilities will chiefly
include clinical service, teaching and laboratory management plus
collaborative support of the department’s research mission. Teaching
may include clinical, didactic, multi-disciplinary conferences, and
small group teaching of housestaff, medical students, clinical
laboratory science students, and practicing physicians.
The
successful candidate must possess a MD, MD/PhD and be board certified in
Transfusion Medicine, or have equivalent credentials. Experience in
teaching and clinical service is required in one or more of the
following areas: Stem cell collections by Apheresis both autologous and
allogeneic, therapeutic apheresis, transfusion medicine, and blood bank
services. Experience in laboratory management and clinical
translational research is preferred. The candidate must meet
requirements for appointment as Assistant or Associate in one of the
University of California’s clinically intensive academic series.
California professional license or eligibility for licensure in
California is required. Additionally, the successful candidate must
have the ability to maintain a high level of service, work cooperatively
and collegially within a diverse environment, and should exhibit
excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with
medical and technical staff, trainees, and others. Salary is
commensurate to background and experience.
The Department of
Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has more than 40 faculty members,
provides service in all major subspecialties of anatomic and clinical
pathology, and is active in basic science, translational, and clinical
research. Educational programs include a 14-person residency program,
specialty fellowships in transfusion medicine, hematopathology,
cytopathology, and surgical pathology, and a clinical laboratory
scientist training program. The University of California, Davis,
Medical Center, one of the nation’s “Top 100 Hospitals,” is a 576 bed
academic medical center, with the distinction of having an
NCI-designated Cancer Center. A new Hospital Pavilion addition has
recently been completed. This has added hospital beds, operating rooms,

Automated Blood Collections Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:
Current
California Registered Nurse, licensed medical technologist or SBB, with

demonstrated competency on multiple types of automated blood collection
technologies required. Use of Microsoft Word required; familiarity with

Medical Services
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible
for operation and performance of apheresis procedures on donors and
patients. The procedures may be collections or therapeutic procedures.
- Oversees, evaluates, performs and documents apheresis procedures according to policy/procedure.
- Performs apheresis procedures on the COBE Spectra instrument and other instruments as assigned.
- Oversees,
evaluates, performs and documents apheresis procedures for collection
of mononuclear cells, granulocytes and/or peripheral blood stem cells,
and performs therapeutic apheresis procedures as required.
- Assists
in the development of new procedures as well as annual review of
pertinent procedures and policies pertaining to the apheresis program.
- Performs general nursing duties: administration of
medications, assessments, overall care of donor/patient during apheresis
procedures. Ensures safe care to donors/patients.
- Is proficient in performing apheresis procedures via peripheral vein and central venous access.

all records required by AABB, FDA, and other accrediting agency or
vendor standards, including procedure/patient care data forms.
- Participates in management of and coordination of clinical research studies using apheresis, if necessary.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduate
of accredited School of Professional Nursing with current RN license in
good standing. Minimum of 3 years of recent direct patient nursing
experience, preferably in an acute-care hospital environment. Prior RN
experience in apheresis or acute/chronic dialysis highly desirable.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

regular blood donation from diverse donor communities. Identifying
epidemiological and demographic trends that may affect the amount or
safety of the blood supply and preforming the necessary research and
analysis to inform policy are also key responsibilities.
Qualified
candidates will possess a MD and have at least 7 years of relevant work
experience including 3 years of supervisory experience in hematology,
pathology or a related discipline. Previous experience in a hospital
setting, transfusion service or blood center/blood banking environment
is preferred, including an understanding of the collections,

data. This position also has the authority to supervise the staff to the
Stem Cell Therapy Lab which includes overseeing workload and daily lab
operations, testing, reporting, equipment and supplies. Reviews work of
supervised technical personnel and provides assurances pertaining to
acceptable and consistent performance. Major challenges encountered by
the incumbent include coordinating the patient workflow from two
separate transplant centers and resolving technical problems associated
with stem cell collections: cell yield, patient/donor reactions,
equipment failure, etc. The incumbent ensures that the best possible
results occur from testing for quality patient care.

Company is looking for a Director of Clinical Operations who is directly responsible for the daily work activities and operation of the NeoStem Donor Program and Client Apheresis Services and Collection Centers (“Network”), as well as the Quality Assurance program of the Network and regulatory responsibilities. This includes onsite visits and support. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs all technical, managerial, computer related and clinical aspects of the Network. Reviews and manages donation practices to maintain high standards of client and donor care. Provides technical expertise, assistance and supervision for all aspects of the daily operation of the Network.
- Provides communication between physicians, clients and the collection centers on important medical and administrative issues
- Responsible for the maintenance of technical and administrative operations in accordance with standards as set forth by NeoStem, various State regulations and regulatory agencies including FDA, AABB, JC, CLIA, HIPAA and FACT.

- Supervises the training and orientation of new collection centers within the Network and new personnel. Participates in the development, review, and implementation of training protocols and training plans.
- Measures and evaluates site activities, providing statistical reports as required. Prepares, evaluates and presents the Donor/Apheresis Center data for NeoStem as needed/directed.
- Responsible for implementation of quality assurance program including review of records, proficiency testing, and documentation of corrective action. Maintains compliance with hospital standards and those of outside regulatory agencies. Develop Compliance Unit to assure and improve the quality of outcomes.
- Assures appropriate and timely deferrals of donors according to standard operating procedures and policies.
- Participates in the interview and selection process of hiring new staff in conjunction with the Collection Care Coordinator program and field clinical support personnel.
- Responsible for documentation of on-going competency of all staff in accordance with Network and regulatory standards.
- Develops/updates performance appraisal plans and participates in evaluation of all staff. Determines staffing needs and administers personnel policies (i.e. as related to hiring, evaluating, and disciplinary activities).
- Conducts performance evaluations on staff to assure ongoing competencies Takes disciplinary action when appropriate in conjunction and with guidance from the President.
