ASCP Certifications

The American Society for Apheresis (ASFA) and the ASCP Board of Registry (BOR) work together to develop and offer apheresis certification exams. The mission is to promote the health and safety of the public by certifying competent laboratory professionals and maintaining a roster of certificants.  The below exams are offered by the ASCP:

Hemapheresis Practitioner Exam, HP(ASCP)
Apheresis Technician Exam, AT(ASCP)
Donor Phlebotomy Technician Exam,  DPT(ASCP)

To become certified, an individual must fulfill the academic and experience/training components specified in the Procedures for Examination and Certification and successfully complete the appropriate examination.

Hemapheresis Practitioner and Apheresis Technician Certification Exam Review Session

The HP and AT Certification Exam Review Session, developed and administered by ASFA, is held annually at the ASFA Annual Meeting.  This Review Session provides an overview of numerous topics that are tested during the HP and AT Certification Exams. The topics of the presentations correspond to the content outline provided by the ASCP for the HP and AT Certification Exams. Experts in the field will provide a broad overview of each of the topics. Participants will have an opportunity to work with sample test questions and some case studies.
