September 2017

Topic: Optimizing Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell Collection by Apheresis
Date: Wednesday, September 13, 2017
Time: 12:00pm - 1:00pm ET
Speaker: Anand Padmanabhan, MD, PhD

Dr. Padmanabhan is a member of the Medical Sciences Institute of the BloodCenter of Wisconsin. He researches a disorder called Heparin-induced Thrombocytopenia and Thrombosis (HIT), a major cause of morbidity and mortality in heparin treated patients. The focus of his studies is on defining the mechanisms by which HIT antibodies cause disease with a focus on improving diagnosis and treatment of this disorder. Dr. Padmanabhan’s clinical interests are in the area of apheresis, particularly in its application in the areas of cellular collection for stem cell transplantation and in facilitating immunologically challenging solid organ transplants.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand collection methodologies for HPC collection by apheresis
  • Describe devices used to collect HPCs in the US
  • Discuss approaches to optimize cellular collections
